World’s Water Day statistics by
UNICEF had a clean design. The statements are manipulated to make the form of a
woman’s body who is carrying a bucket of water. The statements are blue, which
helps the viewer associate it with water as well as make it stand out from the
orange background. By using different shades of blue and shapes, the statements
are separated so that you can tell where one statement begins and another ends.
The section of text where it states “In industrial countries, everybody has
access to safe water” is cut off by a line from the rest of the statements
about how many places in Africa people lack safe drinking water and statements
about deaths that result from this. I thought this was an interesting design
solution because the line makes a physical divide between first world and third
world water issues and creates emphasis. Statements like these make the viewer
both appreciate having access to safe water and informs them of the importance
of this issue. It made me think if we can send someone to the moon how can we
still live in a reality where people die from not having clean water. It makes
people want to take action to find ways to give these people access to clean
water. #Design for Social Change
