The video game “Persona 5” is full of beautiful graphics and animation sequences. One of my favorite features in the game are the different menu screens. When choosing different options on the menu screen, the background images change and have a comic book feel to them. The changing angles and actions of the characters in the background makes it visually pleasing to the eyes and more interesting than just having a stagnated image. One of my favorite examples is the starting menu that appears when you open the game. The screen first shows you the main characters standing in a subway station in their thief outfits with a moving subway train that races by periodically. After you click “Press Any Button” the scene's angle changes and the options “New Game,” “Load Game,” and “Config” show up in text that are written with a ransom note effect. This is a very interesting way to write the text and is fitting for the game because the game is about a group of thieves. These thieves often leave calling cards made with the same ransom note effect before they commit a heist. When you scroll over each option (“New Game,” “Load Game,” and “Config”) the angle of the scene and the characters move. My second favorite menu is when you open the main menu and select “Confidant” which shows you the protagonist's, Joker, allies' name, rank, their Arcana, and some basic information on their background. The graphics in this part of the menu shows Joker, with his back turned to the viewer and only part of his face is seen. By clicking the buttons on the game controller, you can scroll through Joker's different “confidants” and, in doing so, each character slides onto the screen with their face facing towards the viewer and their back to Joker’s. I thought this was an interesting way to show the fact that they are his allies, and they have his “back.”
