1. Michala Grant: Typography

For this post, I chose to share a journal cover. This journal has instructions on each page of ways to destroy the book such as "crack the spine" and "wipe your feet on this page". I thought that the design and typography used on the cover was very well done for the purpose of the book. The design makes the book look homemade. The homemade look is done in multiple ways. Firstly, making the cover look like it is comprised of duct tape, masking tape, and notebook paper makes it look as if a child could have made it from items they found at home. Another aspect of the cover that gives the cover a homemade feel is the typography. The type that the designer used looks hand drawn and a little sloppy. Although this type of font isn't always appropriate, for this type of book, it works. I think that this type of cover is that every font has a time and a place. Though a teacher probably wouldn't accept a formal essay with this font, it looks completely in place in this circumstance.
