The original Target logo is made up of three red rings and three white rings with the word “Target” written in a serif font with high contrast strokes and hairline serifs. The newer logo that was designed in 2006 was simplified to two red rings with one white ring and no typography. This shows that the company is aware that their logo is known enough worldwide that they do not need to use text for viewers to know that it is their logo. The use of a target to represent the word “Target” is a simple but impactful solution to the design problem. Like the apple logo the target literally means the name of the company and the simple three ring design makes it easier to identify than its earlier logo. The red and white standout and can be recognized easily from even a long distance. Logos like this have become a cultural symbol in American and a familiar symbol in my day to day life.
