20. Michala Grant: For Social Good

For this design for social good, I chose to go with the YMCA logo. The YMCA is a Christian organization that started as a welfare movement. Now, their mission is to offer programs that "build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all" by using Christian principles. YMCA stands for The Young Men's Christian Association. I chose this logo because I always went to the YMCA as a child but I never knew the message that they stood for. As for their logo, they unveiled this one in 2010. It has a very modern and sleek look. I like that the designer decided to go with a lowercase "the". I think that it gives the logo more visual interest. I also like that the large Y is made out of two shapes. The purple part of the Y looks like an arrow so that could be indicative of the YMCA's desire for forward progress. They also put YMCA following the stroke of the Y. I think this is a good place for it. It is also very small so it doesn't take attention away from the main point, the Y.
