32. Identity Chyna Sykes

This was the logo for Gaijin noodle bar. It is important to me because before Gaijin closed down it was my favorite place to eat because they could made crispy pork belly that tasted close to what I used to eat as a child and I was disappointed to see it close. The logo is successful because it is very minimalistic in its design and the only colors used in it are white, black and red. The line for the bowl which also becomes a fork makes this logo very interesting and imitate a look of smeared soy sauce or something. The word Gaijin is written in a font that looks a lot like handwriting and are done in a thick text with curved edges it has hierarchy over the word noodle and bar which works very well because when me and my friends talk about this place we call it gaijin for short which would help get the news around and make it a memorable name for people looking for food. The word Gaijin is written very loosely like noodles which they cleverly designed the chopsticks to be the only part with color and treats the G in the word as a noodle which emphasizes the idea of the noodle bar.

  1. It's too bad that Gaijin closed! Collin Waldron, the logo designer, is a local graphic designer and videographer. He shared these slides of his design process from the initial mood board to concept variations to the final product. I will share the images in another post.
