My family owns a beach house on the Outer Banks of North Carolina which experiences frequent hurricanes in the mid-late months of the year. Although the hurricanes have been relatively mild for the past few years, there have been instances in which storm surges and high winds have damaged the house. Thankfully no one was at the house when the hurricane arrived. The NC Hurricane Evacuation Route is helpful in these cases for multiple reasons. Those who live on the Outer Banks year round may not have to travel inland often, so this map can outline the fastest ways to get to safe zones that wont be as effected by the hurricane. Another reason is that the map outlines the major areas that experience floods and storm surge, and the highways best suited to location in order to get out of the area.
