Nickelodeon was a huge part of my childhood. I watched far more of their cartoons and shows than I did Cartoon Network and Disney, and I believe a reason for that was their designs and advertisements appealed to me more than the other two. I was recently flipping through T.V. channels and came upon Nickelodeon and was surprised at how much they've changed their design approach. I saw this ad for Spongebob and honestly didn't really get why they chose this typeface. Compared to all of the other kid-friendly fonts they could've chosen, they used a bold version of some kind of Grotesque font. The dark purple color contrasts well against the yellow back ground, but as far as I can see, that's really the only effective part of the ad (besides more technical aspects like breaking the words up into individual syllables). It's a more modern font, which I think wasn't used in the correct context here, so I'll say that this design isn't as effective as it could've been.
