This is the Disneyland signage from 1955, one of the first examples of graphic playing a major role in place-making. Disney used hundreds of colorful signs, icons, posters, and graphics to help define places. Theme parks, museums, and other environments followed this lead. I chose the Disney signage because the work they but into their parks has always amazed me. From small details like hidden Mickey's throughout the park to an underground garbage system so visitors don't have to see or smell workers carrying away trash.
