This is the message that app state has put on every single napkin holder on campus. It is a warning against using plastic straws- they last 500 years in a landfill. This card has images of app state students from 1956 to emphasize this point- the straws they used are all still around, and the straws we use will do the same unless we make changes. It also states that ASU has become a straw free campus with certain exceptions (smoothies and milkshakes) and paper straws, which I would say is close to reality. You have to go out of your way to get a straw on this campus in the traditional dining halls, which definitely helps reduce the amount of straws thrown away by the school. I like how the card reflects back on past years and classes of students to make a point about the decomposition rate of plastic- it is a more interesting take than just a card that says "hey you shouldn't use plastic straws because they take a long time to decompose"- it gives you something to compare that information to.
