This is the logo for MTV. The designers of the logo chose to use the exact name of the channel as the logo. Sometimes tv channels will have a symbol that represents the channel. An example of this is the peacock for NBC. The designers of the MTV logo didn't take this route and I think that this works really well. I think that a lot of channels that simply use the name of the channel as their logo are kind of boring designs. This design has a 3-dimensional M with a spray painted "TV" over part of it. I think the two different types of letterforms adds visual interest. The spray paint style "TV" goes with the content that MTV produces. A spray paint logo for another channel like ABC or CBS may seem a little strange and out of place but it works for MTV.
